APA Referencing Guide

This online guide is an abridged version of the American Psychological Association (APA, 2020a) 7th edition manual.

Multiple Sources in a Citation

You can cite more than one resource after a single idea (i.e. using multiple sources to support your point). When citing works parenthetically, separate each citation with a semi-colon and list in alphabetical order.

A visual template for citing multiple authors in-text. It reads: Author (Year) and Author (Year) or (Author, Year; Author, Year)

Narrative Citation:

…appeared in Mowell et al. (2010) and Morrison (2011), who examined…

Parenthetical Citation:

... found in peer reflection activities (Jones, 1992; Smith, 1997).

For variations of multiple sources as in-text citations please see page 10-11 of the referencing guide, or the APA style website (APA, 2022l).
